Additional Trash Changes
Beginning Monday, April 6, 2020, Patriot (as well as all other trash providers) will pick up only trash and recycling that fits in their respective toters.
To the Residents of Virginia Run…
The COVID-19 crisis continues to have an impact on everyday activities, many of which we take for granted. Last week we notified you of changes to waste management services from our provider, Patriot Disposal Services. Patriot has just notified us of additional limits to the services. Beginning Monday, April 6, 2020, Patriot (as well as all other trash providers) will pick up only trash and recycling that fits in their respective toters. They can no longer pick up items left external to the toters. This is due to the fact that they will be using automatic side loading trucks with driver only and no additional personnel. Attached is the notice from Patriot that provides additional details including reasoning. The notice also references information on the subject from the Fairfax County website.
The Board has reviewed the contract with Patriot to consider any recourse. As is common with many such contracts, the contract contains “force majeure” language dealing with unforeseeable causes beyond Patriot’s control which clearly this is the case and any penalties that normally would apply are suspended.
So simply stated, if you can fit your bagged yard debris into the trash toter for pickup, please do so. If you cannot, please store it behind your home and wait for the next pickup.
We hope that the situation improves so that normal services can resume and we appreciate your cooperation and patience in the mean time.
