In Remembrence of Dr. Thomas R. Martin, Jr.
Posted on Aug 16th, 2019 Comments (0)
It is with great sadness that we report the loss of one of the Virginia Run Community’s founding fathers, Dr. Tom Martin, who passed on Sunday. Tom was an active contributor to the Community for over three decades and his contributions helped shape the Community into the place that we enjoy today. Tom founded and served as Team Administrator for the Virginia Run Swim Team from 1989 – 1999, served on the Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2010 and as its President 2001 – 2010 and served on the Assets Management Committee from 2010 until the present. Tom’s engagements extended beyond Virginia Run and you can read about those in his obituary. Tom will be missed and we would like to offer our condolences to the Martin family on behalf of the Virginia Run Community.
The Martin Family will be receiving guests at the Virginia Run Community Center from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 22nd.

We invite you to view Tom’s obituary and please take a moment to share your memories of Tom with his family on the Tribute Wall.

Important Trash Notice Effective July 1, 2019
Posted on Jun 26th, 2019 Comments (0)

Virginia Run Residents:

Despite all of the Board and Management’s efforts to work with American Disposal Services (ADS) to resolve ongoing performance issues as well as to continue twice weekly trash pickups, ADS has informed the Association that due to the continuing driver shortage situation they can no longer accommodate twice a week trash service for single family communities.  ADS submitted a contract amendment to the Association that proposed to reduce trash pick-ups to one day a week in exchange for a modest monthly rate reduction ($1.65 per residence per month). The Board voted unanimously to reject the proposed amendment at the June Board of Trustees meeting.  We notified ADS of the Board’s decision and ADS still intends to reduce trash pickups to one day a week.  After discussing the situation with the Association’s counsel, we are compelled to comply with the new schedule until a new contractor is chosen in the fall.

Beginning July 1, 2019, trash will no longer be picked up twice weekly.  Trash and yard waste will be picked up on Mondays and recycling only will be picked up on Thursdays.

While the Association is to receive a rate reduction through the end of the current contract period (December 31, 2019), the Board will likely not change the current trash assessment or provide a refund to Residents but rather will withhold the funds in favor of applying them to potential increases in the new contract that will begin on or before January 1, 2020.  The Board will decide on this matter at the July Board of Trustee’s meeting.  As a reminder, the Association dues include a direct pass through for the trash service.  By rule, any funds received from the reductions in trash services must be applied to the rate structure for the following year.
